Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Amazing food and a killer view. Food was very fresh and prepared extremely well by the chefs and cooks. Truly relaxing view and had one of the best meals in Langkawi. Recommended to come early before 1 as it can get busy."
"A great local place! Famous for seafood and especially crabs in coconut curry sauce! Once you enter they open boxes with the fresh fish, squid, crabs, so you can choose what and how much you want. They recommend us a method of preparation too! We also got sour plum drink - which is traditional here and is quite interesting to try. The road here is through the rice fields, so be careful driving, thus totally worth it! You can sit on the roof terrace with the rice fields views or down, where you have a traditional band playing. We really loved this local gem!"
"This is the place if you wanna experience the authentic Malay kampung dishes while having it in the middle of panaromic paddy field. Typical kampung cook and you can choose variety of set meal to suit your cravings. Proper parking provided but be warned about narrow road to reach this restaurant from the main road. Try to have your meal at one of the hut there that called "dangau". Better check the crowds before coming because your will have to rush during the peak season (school holidays or long weekends)."
"Very authentic malay food. I love the concept of pick what you want and then the style of cooking. Soo food was fresh , but i recommend coming in larger groups so can try different items. There was a band playing traditional music and you can choose to sit in traditional cross leg huts."
"Food is superb. But not fan for prawn buttermilk.. but my kids kinda like it. Love ikan bakar n ketam masak lemak. The view is phenomenal..sure will repeat even there is misscom with seating arrangmnt but we got better view. So.. the staff is so helpful.. service is so fast... even the kakak 'rela' is very helpful n sooo nice owh the owner too so friendly.."
"Location The restaurant is located right in the middle of a paddy field. The scenery is absolutely mesmerising, with wide paddy fields and mountains in the background (6/5) for the view. Parking is available but limited. The journey to get here involves passing through narrow roads, but it was still okay and accessible. Food & Taste Food was served in traditional foodware such as talam mengkuang and traditional rice pots, which added an authentic touch to the dining experience. Most of the food and drinks were good, with very traditional flavours. The dishes were full of taste and not overly spicy (4.5/5). Udang sambal – not too spicy (4/5) Kupang Masak Lemak – creamy and not hanyir (3/5) Gulai ikan – not too spicy(4/5) We walked in and were served within about 20 minutes. The restaurant is suitable for groups of all sizes. If you’re lucky or make a reservation, you can request to sit in a pondok overlooking the paddy fields, though seating there requires sitting (cross legs) bersila. There was also a live band near the entrance, which added to the overall atmosphere. Price Prices are standard, comparable to other restaurants in Langkawi"
"We really enjoyed this restaurant, just walking distance from the villa we were staying in. The staff were so friendly and welcoming (especially when we only spoke English). The coconut crab curry and the prawn noodles were delicious. We sat upstairs with a lovely breeze, overlooking the rice fields."
"We dropped by Dangau Langkawi and ordered a generous spread of traditional Malay dishes. The highlight was their mix fish grill (ikan geruk) with sambal and buttermilk, known as Ikan Bakar Dua Benua. The fish was well-cooked, flavourful, and paired nicely with the contrasting sambal and creamy buttermilk sauce. We also had the squid masak sambal, gulai telur itik, fried ikan belok (gelama), and an omelette with ulaman set. Overall, the food was good and satisfying, with generous portions—definitely value for money. Our absolute favourites were the squid sambal and the ikan belok. Both tasted different in a good way. The squid sambal was rich and addictive, while the ikan belok stood out for being crispy, light, and not overly salty, which made it very enjoyable. Set meals are also available, making it a convenient choice for families or bigger groups who want to try a variety of dishes without ordering individually. Since we came as a small family with two adults and kids, we opted for à la carte, which worked well for us and allowed us to choose exactly what we wanted. The ambience is very kampung-style, surrounded by paddy fields, giving a peaceful rural vibe. However, the place is quite limited in space and can feel hot during the afternoon, so coming earlier or later in the day would be more comfortable. Do note that the entrance road is narrow and parking is limited, so drive carefully, especially during peak hours. If you’re looking for authentic Malay food with hearty portions and don’t mind a bit of heat and limited access, Dangau Langkawi is worth checking out"
